This project is a continuation of self-exploration and identity, through the use of text, scaffolding and print. A self-reflecting dialogue between myself and the audience. Created by using 3x5 metre construction scaffolding, I positioned the structure to create the most orthogonal shape; the square. On top of this scaffolding structure, I placed 1x5 metres banners to create the facade of the scaffolding and almost close the structure, to resemble a room or building. Each banner had wide-scale text with my name, either introducing my work through a statement or self-exploration through a question.
The north side of the structure, being the chosen ‘front’ of the installation, has a banner stating that this work is by Nicole Varda. This was placed at the front of the work to introduce the audience to the work through a simple statement. As you follow the structure and interpret each side, you are faced with 3 more banners asking questions about the artist, which is the self-reflecting dialogue I am sharing with the spectator. The middle of the installation is a juxtaposition to the outer part, being empty. I aimed to create a void in the centre of the piece.
